The Kissing Booth actress Joey King officially sheds off the last remnants of her role as sweet girl Ellie Evans, as she shaves her head for a much darker role—convicted murderer Gypsy Rose Blanchard—for a new Hulu series entitled The Act.
She documented the process on Instagram, where she wrote, “My name for the next [four] months, is Gypsy Rose Blanchard. This story is very disturbing and I am honored to be able to portray it.”
The show is based on a real-life story about Gypsy Rose, a young girl whom everyone believed to be disabled. In 2015, it was discovered that with the help of her lover, she murdered her own mother, Dee Dee Blanchard, who suffered from Munchausen by proxy, a mental illness which caused her to make up fake symptoms or cause real symptoms to make it appear like her daughter was sick.
Gypsy is currently serving a 10-year sentence in prison for her crime.
Release date for the Hulu true crime anthology series has yet to be announced.
