I have never cheered for Vice Ganda more after seeing his interview with (former?) presidential spokesperson Harry Roque. During last night’s Gandang Gabi Vice, the host didn’t hold back on questions about Pres. Rodrigo Duterte’s inappropriate behavior. And if you think that Roque was going to roast the president, think again.
“Naniniwala ho ba kayo na may nasasabi siya minsan na hindi appropriate?” (Do you believe that he sometime says something inappropriate?) Vice asked. Roque said yes and admitted that, if given the chance, he would’ve pulled the president off the stage when he kissed the OFW in South Korea. However, he still defended Duterte and said he still believes that it’s his way of showing love to the OFWs—just not by kissing them on the lips.
But just like what Vice said, if he knew that it was inappropriate, how come he’s still defending it? Of course, Roque gave the usual “I work for him” spiel. While he believes in disciplining people and even the president, he still thinks that a person is worth defending if they did nothing wrong. That includes all the times he vouched for Duterte kissing women at public event and also his rape jokes.
“Well, I think, by doing my job, I am doing what is right because wala namang ginagawang mali and presidente (the president isn’t doing anything wrong),” Roque said. To which Vice asked, “Absolutely?” and the spokesperson maintained that “[Duterte] is not perfect, but he’s the best president we can have under these conditions.” Riiiight.
