We figured out 2018’s holiday makeup collection trends

Gingerbreads and Christmas trees aren’t the only things that make the holidays special. For beauty junkies, it’s all the makeup collections dropping this season.

Every year, it’s the same old glitter, cool-toned makeup. Oftentimes featuring shades and names that remind us of anything winter-related and the sweet desserts we like to indulge in at grandma’s house. That said, we wanted to see what’s trending for the 2018 collections from the colors, finishes, down to the packaging. After much digging, we rounded up three trends. Keep scrolling to find out more.

Hmmm, frosty

Sunnies Face recently unveiled frosted tubes for five of their Fluffmatte shades, exclusive for the holiday season. In case you didn’t know yet, these are available in all of their stores and there’s no limit to stocks—yet.

Also joining the frost train is Rihanna’s Fenty Beauty, which launched its Chill Owt holiday collection this October. The collection includes eyeshadow, loose highlighter pigments, and lip + eye pencils that have shimmery metallic finishes. Riri herself tested out the products in a makeup tutorial that’s just as entertaining as her Vogue video.

Going green

Based on previous collections, we observed that blues and silvers are always dominating eyeshadow palettes. However, this year seems like the perfect time to utilize some show-stopping green shades.

PÜR Cosmetics launched a palette and color-changing lip balm inspired by The Grinch. The uppermost shade is a glittery green shade, the same color as Grinch. It’s a standout shade in a palette of champagne and candy shades. The lip balm is also green but registers red once it’s applied on the lips.

A similar Christmas green comes from Pat McGrath’s MTHRSHP Eye Palette in Bronze Temptation. The other colors in the palette are browns and pinks, so this green is definitely a statement choice.

Chanel’s holiday line, Collection Libre, also features a dark green shimmery eyeshadow named Vert Lamé. According to beauty vlogger Michelle Wang described it as having a gold shift when swatched.

Candy dreams

Who doesn’t want makeup that reminds them of their favorite candies, especially candy canes? Contrary to popular belief, Halloween isn’t the only time of the year where sweets are abundant. Of course, Too Faced is leading the pack with yet another holiday collection that features bundles with cult-faves like their Peach eyeshadow palettes, Melted liquid lipsticks, and Better Than Sex mascaras. What caught our eye is the Peach Tinsel line that includes a “loose sparkling powder” and a pink powder puff—kinda reminds us of cotton candy.

If you want a whole line of candy-colored tools, BeautyBlender has got you covered. Apart from their already-released Pink and Sapphire sponges, they also debuted Ivy (emerald green) and Joy (sunny yellow) for the holidays. The campaign photos show the sponges side-by-side with striped mints of the same colors.
