Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you probably heard about the song “thank u, next” by Ariana Grande. As we’ve already covered, this anthem is about her past relationships, and how she’s grateful for how each of them shaped her into who she is today. We especially loved the part where she sings about self-love; saying she’s moved on to someone else: herself, Ari. Again, we emphasize the Ari part. Just in case you misheard it, like Apple Music and Amazon Music apparently did. As Elite Daily noted, Apple Music included the wrong lyrics on their streaming service, mistakenly altering that iconic line to: “But this one gon’ last / ‘Cause her name is Aubrey.” Unsurprisingly, the mishap has got netizens scratching their heads. Sure enough, we could count on Twitter to respond the best way you possibly can in these types of situations: through hilarious memes.
One even insinuated that maybe she’s talking about the rapper Drake, whose real first name is Aubrey.
To set things straight, Ariana herself tweeted, “I said Ari fam,” while mentioning Apple Music. Meanwhile, she thanked Spotify for “getting it right” in another tweet.
Jokes aside though, we’re really glad Ari chose to approach her past relationships in this light. There’s already too much negativity and bitterness from people who weighed in on her failed romance as it is. And we’re familiar with musicians using their art to throw shade at their exes, so this song is definitely refreshing. Also, we’re over the moon she’s all for loving herself right now. We all know how tough this year has been for her. So while others admitted they were kind of disappointed the pop singer isn’t referring to a new girlfriend, they’re still loving the true message of this anthem—and I think we all agree, in this particular song, Ari is much, much better than Aubrey. Honestly, we all could use some positivity—but especially those who just got out of a relationship and feeling down. Right now, she’s giving us the mindset we need for the end of the year. Let’s make a pact, ladies. Let’s join our queen and end the year with overflowing self-love.
