In case you needed some mind-boggling news this Monday, here it is. Inquirer.net reported that Pres. Rodrigo Duterte admitted to smoking marijuana. He said this during a speech earlier today. “It’s a killing activity, and I think that my age, ako hindi masyado, kasi nagmamarijuana ako eh, para magising. Sa iba, hindi na kaya.” Yup, he smokes weed to stay awake because of his very hectic schedule.
In 2016, ABS CBN News reported that Duterte was for medicinal marijuana but against its recreational use. In an interview he said, “Medicinal marijuana, yes, because it is really an ingredient of modern medicine now. There are medicined right now being developed or already in the market that contains marijuana as a component but used for medical purposes.” He continues, “Pero ‘yung maghithit ka lang diyan, parang sigarilyo, I will not allow it ever because I have seen so many of my classmates even noon…”
Today, he did not expound further about his smoking marijuana but do you think it’s for medical purposes?
Update: Just a few moments after his “admission” to using marijuana, Duterte took it back. Inquirer.net reported that when asked if he was joking he said, “Of course, I was joking.”
