Think twice before shopping trendy clothes

It’s inevitable, each of us will fall for the latest fashion trends. Maybe not all of them, but there will be at least one that you feel you just have to have. I respect that, we do live in a consumerist society after all—which isn’t always a good thing but you get my point. With trends changing up quicker than our bank accounts can keep up with, we’re faced with a first-world problem. Many of us have the lowest EQ, that we just jump on the latest bandwagon without hesitation. I beg you, let’s at least try to be smarter shoppers. Before you binge scroll through online shops and blackout when inputting your credit card information, take not of these shopping tips.

Shop the sale rack

Some trends come and go real quick so you might not want to spend too much money them. Try checking out the sale racks, you are bound to find a PVC bag or neon green bodysuit somewhere there. If you get sick of the trend right away, at least you won’t feel bad for spending less than half of the full price.

Check out donations

Eventually, you might end up regretting that pair of overly ripped jeans. Yes, we blame Kendall Jenner’s influence for this one. But, don’t just throw these pieces in the trash. Find out where you can donate or sell used clothing. I’m sure there’s someone out there who will appreciate it. And, no judgement if that is your aesthetic, you do you.

Read reviews

Thank to online publications and YouTube, you can find a review on almost everything, including clothes. One YouTuber in particular is Particia Bright. She does a series of videos wherein she shops from popular online stores. She tries on the trendy outfits on camera and gives her brutally honest reviews, including how the clothes make her feel.

Test it out

For trendy clothes, I suggest going to actual stores and fitting, instead of buying straight online. This way, you’ll get to see how these pieces fit and look on you. If you’re feeling yourself, go get it girl. If not, at least you’ll leave with no regrets. Please don’t forget to do this. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been disappointed with an online clothing purchase.

Wardrobe match

Before you mindlessly buy the next trendy jacket or pair of pants, don’t forget to see how it will fit in your wardrobe. If you can’t put together a number of outfits with that one clothing item, chances are, it’s not worth getting. If you force the issue, people will notice. Trust me.
