Working moms’ maternity leaves are now finally extended to 105 days

Good news! Pres. Rodrigo Duterte has just signed into law the Expanded Maternity Leave bill. This means working mothers will now be granted additional leave benefits.

Whereas the previous law only guarantees working moms 60 days of paid leave for normal delivery and 78 days for caesarean delivery, with this new law, all employed mothers in the government and private sector are now given 105 days of paid maternity leave credits, with seven days transferable to fathers. Moreover, single mothers are granted an additional 15 days of leave. It even gives mothers an option to extend their leave for another 30 days without pay. The law also now applies to all instances of pregnancies, removing the 4-pregnancy cap.

“Filipinos are family-oriented. These industrialist businessmen, they will understand,” Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said.

We applaud this great move by the president. It’s definitely a great step towards achieving gender equality in the workplace.
