Handbag Edits: We’re filling up this “manika” bag with items that celebrate great women

Have you ever wondered what you should be bringing in your handbags? Or having difficulty editing your essentials down to the bare minimum? You’re not alone, that happens to us too. With Handbag Edits, we show you what you can throw into different bags of different sizes. We also have celebrities and personalities share their bag must-haves and current favorites.

The first leg of this year’s Manila Fame just concluded and it was a hit. There were so many booths that got our attention—like Joanique. The local brand is an emerging contemporary brand established in 2011 by Malou Romero. Browse through their catalog, and you can’t help but fall in love with the designs—especially their bags. Their latest collection is called “Manika.” Every piece in the collection I honestly want to take home, but the Urduja, inspired by the strong and beautiful women of our indigenous tribes, is a personal favorite. It’s always a nice thing when women who are normally not given attention to, are used as inspiration.

So for this Handbag Edit, we’re listing down items you can put inside the Urduja, which in a way pays homage to great women—just like the bag.

FS Filipiñana Lipstick

Last year, beauty brand FS Cosmetics released a lipstick collection called Filipiniana. The eight-piece matte lipstick collection comes in a tube adorned with a timeless Filipina-inspired emblem. Each lipstick shade is named after Filipina female icons, like Gabriela Silang, and Reyna Elena. Available on Shopee PH.

L’Occitane Shea Orange Blossom Fragrance Solidarity Balm

When you buy this balm, which helps nourish, protect and soften not just your lips but also your skin and hair, you also contribute to the L’Occitane Foundation. 100 percent of the profit from the sale of this orange blossom fragranced balm will finance NGO projects to promote women’s leadership in Burkina Faso. Available at Rustan’s The Beauty Source.

Woven Liham Mini

Since the Urduja is small, you might wonder about how you’ll be able to fit your essentials there. Don’t worry, this small but sleek Liham sleeve by Woven has got you covered. It features handwoven banig, local leather, and room for your absolute must-haves like phone, and money. The best thing about it? Woven helps weaver communities from around the country, mainly composed of women. Available online.

Remind PH Bamboo Straw with Pouch

When you buy this, you’re not only supporting the earth, but its brand’s founders: Lady bosses Meryl Ligunas and Andreana Aragon. Remind PH’s (Reusable Items for More Mindful Living) flagship product is the bamboo straw, made with organically grown bamboo (the fastest growing plant in the world making it a renewable resource), and created without inks and dyes. Oh, and all the products come with a canvas pouch sewn by a Persons With Disabilities (PWD) community. Available on Beauty MNL.
