A modern kubo in the middle of Makati’s central business district? Yes, it exists and it houses local fashion and beauty brands.
Kubo, found along Esteban Street in Legazpi Village, Makati City, is the first physical store of PIOPIO, a brand conceptualized by Paloma Urquijo Zobel. Preen.ph partnered up with them to throw #KuboParty last Saturday (May 4), a fiesta-themed party to launch their new space. This was accompanied with music, Filipino street food, and an informative talk by Happy Skin founder Rissa Mananquil-Trillo.
Upon entering the store, guests could pose at the photo booth and were given the chance to revamp their denim jackets with retaso patches.
We later moved to the cozy talk area where Rissa spoke about her experience as a businesswoman and how she started Happy Skin. It was followed by a panel discussion with Paloma and Preen.ph associate editor Tisha Ramirez.
In the evening, the Hernandez Brothers kicked off the party with their heart-thumping drum beats. Guests were feeling the music while sipping their drinks—either a cocktail by Jungle Bar and Yardstick, or a Bumble-jito mocktail.
Speaking of refreshments, there was also a jollijeep outside Kubo that offered snacks and juice. There were fishballs, kwek-kwek, French fries, kikiam, beef rendang sliders from Your Local, puto, sago’t gulaman, and buko juice.
Several personalities also celebrated with us. These included the likes of actress Glaiza De Castro, Asia’s Next Top Model contestant Jach Manere, designers CJ Cruz and Mich Dulce, and director Samantha Lee.
The night went on with music from DJs Badkiss and Mafia. There were some guests who stayed and danced while carrying their PIOPIO shopping bags.
That said, thank you to everyone who showed up at the #KuboParty!
