The Supreme Court has dismissed the petition that seeks to allow same-sex marriage in the Philippines.
Associate Justice Marivic Leonen penned the decision made by the high court to dismiss same-sex petition on the account of lack of standing of petitioner Jesus Falcis, violation of principle of hierarchy of courts and failing to raise actual, justiciable controversy.
Falcis filed the petition in 2015, and he described himself in the pleading as “an open and self-identified homosexual.”
The SC was also holding Falcis and his counsels in indirect contempt for forgetting “bare rudiments of court procedure and decorum or worse, to purport to know them but really only to exploit them by way of propaganda.”
This will definitely slow down the progress of same-sex marriage in the Philippines. Members of the LGBTQ+ community have been counting on this bill, but its developments are now unknown.
