After suing Forever 21 for allegedly using her likeness in a fashion campaign, Ariana Grande was accused by “RuPaul’s Drag Race” alum Farrah Moan for copying one of her outfits.
But the tea gets even more scalding because it doesn’t stop there.
Just a few hours ago, Diet Prada took to Instagram to uncover more of Ari’s fashion secrets. They revealed the mood board that Ariana’s team sent to multiple designers to create costumes for her “Sweetener” tour.
“72 percent of the four-page document features Black women as a reference (mostly Rihanna and a couple of Ciara images),” Diet Prada revealed, even including a page of the PDF in the post, where you can see Rihanna’s pink tour costume, and some of Yeha Lung’s custom made-to-measure bondage wear.
The fashion police even called out Ari to be “appropriating Black aesthetics,” as most of the pegs in the PDF are looks worn by Black singers or designed by black women like Yeha Lung.
“If you’ve ever needed proof of Ariana Grande’s appropriation of Black aesthetics (beyond the obvious), it’s all here.”
Many fans have been defending Ari in the comments, saying this was not a matter of Black aesthetic appropriation.
“There is clearly a copy-cat problem here! But it’s not cultural appropriation, it has nothing to do with race or cultural! It’s more artistic appropriation and unfortunately everyone does that in pop these days!” a netizen commented.
There is clear evidence that Ari’s team have been using similar looks from other artists and designers. But appropriating Black aesthetics? Isn’t that taking it a bit too far, Diet Prada?
