We’re taking style notes from the anime ‘Carole & Tuesday’

One thing you need to know about our team is we love Japanese animation. It doesn’t matter if it’s set in a high school or outer space, there are robots or magical creatures, we’ll binge-watch as long as it’s interesting. The latest show we’ve seen is “Carole & Tuesday” on Netflix.

This series revolves around two young women, Carole and Tuesday, who are trying to make a name in music in a time when AI has taken over the airwaves. The show can be considered a heartwarming slice of life story, but it also has some very real moments ranging from the hardships of making it in the music industry to abuse. (Perhaps we can talk about this some other time.)

The best parts about Carole & Tuesday are the music (which is on Spotify, BTW!) and how fashionable the main characters are. They may not be high-profile celebrities and have designer threads, but they carry themselves well with their individual styles. So we decided to look for similar, if not identical, pieces to channel either Carole or Tuesday—or even both!

Carole

Carole is more laidback with her clothing choices. She’s usually seen wearing red overalls and boots, and when it gets cold, she can pull off a faux fur-lined coat. When she’s at home, her loungewear in some episodes involve a hoodie and a halter top.

Mih Jeans Paradise Dungaree

This is a must-have in Carole’s wardrobe. You can wear a T-shirt or a bralette underneath, then fold the pant legs and wear ankle boots. Accessorize with long chain necklaces as well if you want to.

Available on Farfetch.

Something Borrowed Off Shoulder Long Sleeve Knit Top

During the “Mars Brightest” singing competition, Carole wore a yellow off-shoulder top and accessorized it with a red choker. For something similar, cop this piece from Something Borrowed—exposed bra straps optional.

Available on Zalora PH.

Sirak PH Scrunchies

Carole has dreadlocks and she usually ties them with a red and yellow hair tie. Our suggestion is to cop one or two from Sirak PH, a local brand that sells scrunchies of various colors and prints. That way, you can have fun styling your updo.

Tuesday

Tuesday reminds us of a blonde doll who has a penchant for ruffles and Parisian fashion. (Except her dollhouse is an actual mansion with AI robots guarding the area.) Whether she’s walking the streets of Mars Alba City or performing onstage, she’s always wearing her signature long-skirt dresses, black tights, and a pair of Mary Janes.

Charles & Keith Lucite Heel Mary Janes

Mary Jane-style shoes are a Tuesday staple. For something that’s not too “schoolgirl,” try on this Charles & Keith pair which has a high block heel, pointed toe, and a buckled front strap detail. Don’t forget to wear black tights with these for the full Tuesday effect.

Available at Bonifacio High Street.

Daria Zelda Ruffle Dress With Short Sleeves

In one episode, Tuesday wore a blue and white ruffled dress that seemed to be inspired by “Alice in Wonderland.” We found a grown-up version of this, which comes in a darker blue shade, has a white bow detail on the neckline, and ruffled sleeves.

Available on Zalora PH.

H&M Puff-Sleeved Cotton Blouse

You’d rarely see Tuesday in relaxed loungewear at home, except when she’s sleeping or cleaning. Here, she’s wearing a white ruffled top (yes, she loooves ruffles) with puffed sleeves. This one from H&M has longer sleeves and is a button-down top, so you can wear this to work if you want to. Just tie a thin ribbon around the neck so it looks similar to Tuesday’s outfit.

Available at SM Megamall.
