Stop your Christmas countdown for a bit. In case you forgot, Halloween is coming. Do you have a costume planned as early as now? If not, we’re here to help you out.
When you’re an adult, getting candy is the least of your Halloween priorities (unless you’re really a sweet tooth). It’s now important for us to wear fun costumes and makeup looks inspired by whatever piques our interest this year. So far, the last eight months of 2019 have given us several pop culture references to work with.
What are the makeup trends for Halloween 2019? We listed them down for you.
Scary-pretty Pennywise
According to Comscore, “It Chapter Two” made up to $185 million during its opening weekend. It’s also clear that people are still obsessed with Pennywise as a horror icon—so much that they’ve done scary and beautified versions of his clown makeup. So feel free to play around with it depending on the vibe you want to go with.
Joker with smudged makeup
Another clown to get inspiration from: Joaquin Phoenix’ Joker. The film premiered earlier this year and it’s said to be an origin story for Gotham’s Clown Prince of Crime. While his look has clean lines (at least based on the trailer), there seems to be IG influencers who are doing smudged makeup looks a la Heath Ledger Joker. Again, the Joker is a versatile character to copy from for Halloween. But if you’re not into this character, you can always do Harley Quinn.
The crying May Queen from “Midsommar”
“Midsommar” brought back the flower crown, so we wouldn’t be surprised if people would also dress like the May Queen this Halloween. The trick here is to look like you’ve been crying (tears are a plus) and have a bunch of flowers on your head. You can also dance around in circles and carry a stuffed bear if you really want to get into it.
Channel “Euphoria”
“Euphoria” has been the talk of the internet because of the makeup looks featured in the show. Since then, fans have been recreating them and putting their own spin to them. Even if you don’t watch the show, you can see a lot of the looks on the show’s official IG account. Just scroll and choose which one speaks to you the most.
“Lion King”-inspired eyeshadow
The live-action “Lion King” may not be the same movie as we remembered, but it still tugged at our nostalgic heartstrings. But IG makeup accounts aren’t recreating Simba or Nala with prosthetics. They’re instead doing sceneries on their eyelids. This one from Mels Smith, for example, shows the “Circle of Life” scene recreated with eyeshadow and eyeliner. Now that’s creativity!
“Cats” minus the fur
The “Cats” trailer gave us nightmares, but it’s undeniable that it has the most unique makeup looks out of all the Broadway plays. If you have a lot of time on your hands, then you can do an elaborate look inspired by the upcoming film. The faux fur and mane are optional.
