He's just not that into me✌

A post shared by Georgina Wilson💋 (@ilovegeorgina) on Sep 10, 2018 at 10:14pm PDT

We all have a love-hate relationship with social media and trolls cannot be escaped. But do people have to be so cruel? On Instagram Stories, Georgina Wilson posted a series of photos and videos of Archie at the Sunnies World store. You know, just a mother and son having some fun.

One netizen, however, thought it was necessary to comment on Archie’s behavior. They replied to one of the posts, “I hope this little dude of [yours] will be normal straight in the future..cause for me [he’s] got gay [feature]/gesture..hope NOT.” Georgina posted the message with her reply, “I will love my son no matter what he chooses to be in the future and there is NOTHING WRONG with being gay.”

There are so many things wrong with this comment. First, saying that being straight is what’s “normal” is linked to heteronormative standards. “The belief that heterosexuality, predicated on the gender binary, is the norm or default sexual orientation.” Subscribing to this sort of thinking is what forces people not to come out, could lead to the erasure of LGBTQ+ identity, and causes homophobia. The other side of heteronormative standards is linked to patriarchal gender roles, which “are all of the things we expect from and what we expect from women, for no other reason than that they are a man or a woman.” So, forget the gender roles and expectation you were taught as a kid, your gender doesn’t dictate what you can and can’t do.
