Harvey Weinstein is charged again with two separate incidents of rape and sexual assault over a two-day period that happened in 2013. He was indicted on Monday, Jan. 6 in Los Angeles. The charges came hours after Weinstein was in New York court for the start of his criminal trial on similar charges.
According to the charge sheet, on Feb. 18, 2013, Weinstein allegedly raped a woman after in L.A. after “pushing his way into her hotel,” reports ABS-CBN News. The next day, he allegedly assaulted a woman at a hotel in Beverly Hills.
“We believe the evidence will show that the defendant used his power and influence to gain access to his victims and then commit violent crimes against them,” L.A. District Attorney Jackie Lacey said in a statement.
Lacey said she expects Weinstein to appear in an L.A. court to face the charges once the trial in New York concludes.
Weinstein has earned more than 80 Oscars and is known to be one of the most powerful figures in Hollywood. But he is a sick predator who’s used this power to drive an entire ecosystem of enablers.
Judge James Burke, who’s presiding over the New York trial, would have to decide whether Weinstein should now be remanded into custody. (He should have been a long time ago, TBH.)
