These animal videos are the reasons I still get up in the morning

What’s your favorite thing on the internet? The social platforms where we can connect with others and exercise freedom of speech? The millions of free resources that helped us expand our knowledge like never before? The existence of online shopping? These are all valid answers but if I were being honest, the first thing that popped up in my mind was animal videos. They’re an instant pick me up and they remind us that the world has so many good things to offer. Animal videos are like my lifeline. After watching a great animal video, I know that everything is going to be okay.

We’ve all gone down the YouTube animal videos rabbit hole at least once in our lives. Whenever we see one on our feed, it’s hard to resist checking it out. During the quarantine, I’ve realized that I’ve been bookmarking more of them for late-night consumption and exchanges with my friends (such is the single life). Here are the videos that helped me get through the days that are starting to blur together.

This snail giving us a million-watt smile

@lazy__mermaid Bath time, the end is so 🥺 #achatinafulica #giantafricanlandsnail ♬ Dissolve – Absofacto & NITESHIFT

Did anybody else get super emotional over this snail video? In this TikTok by lazy__mermaid,  a baby giant African snail is getting a shower. After getting water on its little head, the snail turns to the camera and beams at us (at least that’s what it looks like and you can’t convince me otherwise)! I feel like I absorbed all that positive energy. Thank you, little one.

Whistling walrus

I’m losing my mind over this pouty talent. This whistling walrus is giving us range. At first, it’s giving us a sample with a sort of tinny note and progresses to a deeper whistle that sounds a lot like a steam train’s. With that stretched neck and powerful vocal cords, we know Mariah Carey is shaking in her heels.

Twerking duck

Who’s the best twerker that you know? Whoever’s your pick, I’m pretty sure they’re all going to concede to this twerking duck. Who else can do 50 booty pops in 30 seconds? After the quarantine is lifted, I’m definitely inviting this dancer to the club.

Dog vibing to Kylie Minogue

You’ve probably seen this Shiba Inu feeling the music on a passenger seat of a car. Look at this fur baby vibing to Kylie Minogue’s “Can’t Get You Out of My Head,” shaking in time with the beat. I, too, cannot get you out of my head but I don’t mind it all.

Frog bath

Who washes atis in a bathtub? Look closer. Those aren’t fruits, they’re frogs. I can imagine how soothing washing your frogs can be. I bet it’s playing with aroma beads (we called them kisses as kids) in water. Scrubbing these leggy friends seems like a nice summertime activity.

After a nice bath, give your frog a pat on the back. Make it 20 for good measure. (Don’t worry, this one’s a meme.)

Cat grooming courtesy of cows

Oh, to be a cat getting groomed by a bunch of cows! This orange American shorthair is enjoying all the attention. Its bigger pals are reaching all the spots and that gives it less furball to hack up in the future. This is what teamwork and a good friendship look like.

Cows aren’t the only ones who are gigil over orange cats. Here’s a bunch of excited golden retriever puppies showering one with a ton of smooches. Can we get kisses too?

I hope these videos made you feel better because they definitely worked on me.
