Confirmed by YG Entertainment, BLACKPINK Lisa’s manager exploited a huge amount of money from the K-pop idol—about 1 billion won (around P41 million). According to Korean media outlet Market News, Mr. A (the manager’s alias) tricked Lisa into investing in real estate, when in reality he blew the money off by gambling. The Thai K-pop idol, being a foreigner living in South Korea, didn’t have a lot of people to rely on, which led her to trust her manager.
YG Entertainment’s statement about the matter notes that Lisa will not be pursuing the matter further by opting for a settlement, which Mr. A has already paid in part. Since the release of the company’s statement, they reported that Mr. A already left the entertainment management giant. An insider also revealed to Market News that the incident has left Lisa feeling anxious and betrayed.
In the past, YG Entertainment has had the spotlight on them for not taking care of their artists. One of the biggest controversies was 2NE1 Park Bom’s alleged drug smuggling, which turned out to be medication for her depression (only confirmed by the company at its height). This was what made then YG CEO Yang Hyun-suk put the blame of 2NE1’s disbandment on Bom.
