For those having quarantine regret over their DIY bangs or for those who stayed strong against the temptation to bleach their hair ala Blackpink’s Jennie, here’s some good news for you. The Inter-Agency Task Force on the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) finally authorized the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to begin the gradual opening of salons and barbershops.
In an online briefing, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said that aside from basic hair cuts and hair treatments, makeup services, nail care, eyebrow threading, eyelash extensions, body waxing and hand and foot spa will also be allowed.
However, he warns businesses to carry out these services while following strict sanitation protocols. “Ipatutupad ang mga ito sa ilalim ng mahigpit na protocol sa hand sanitation, face mask at face shield, gwantes at sterilized equipment.”
You may start booking your appointments today until July 15. For salons and barbershop located in places where GCQ is implemented, they will only be allowed to operate at 30 percent capacity while those in MGCQ will be allowed until up to 50 percent.
The memorandum from DTI also included some measures that establishments have to follow like implementing a “no face mask, no entry” policy, a health declaration checklist for contact tracing and required thermal scanning. Aside from these, clients should occupy chairs or stations that are distanced one meter at all sides and are not allowed a companion, so no, you and your BFF can’t have that salon date, yet.
Of course, just because an establishment is open, doesn’t mean we must all immediately flock to it. We are still in quarantine after all, and active COVID-19 cases are rising every day, so maybe you can live with your quarantine cut for just a little bit longer?
