‘The Umbrella Academy’ S2 trailer’s release date lies in Robert Sheehan’s hands

The much-awaited season 2 trailer for Netflix series “The Umbrella Academy” is coming really soon and Gerard Way, the author of the comic book and executive producer of the series, just confirmed it.

Over the past few months, “The Umbrella Academy” has been dropping hints for its new season set to be released on Jul. 31 on Netflix. From releasing a short clip of a time capsule with the caption “Have you seen the Hargreeves?” back in May to dropping a series of 60’s-themed photos of the Hargreeves siblings, leaving fans to speculate what could’ve happened to their favorite dysfunctional superhero family after that dramatic cliffhanger in season 1 (don’t worry, no spoilers here)

On Jun. 18, the Netflix adaptation of the Dark Horse comic left fans hanging again after posting a no-context image that could have meant that it would take a little longer for the trailer to come out.

Frustrated fans began to speculate what could be the cause of the delay and flooded the comments section of the series’ social media with questions while the series continued to post teaser images.

Luckily, Gerard Way himself announced on his Instagram today that the trailer is coming out sooner than you think. On Jul. 8, Way posted a video teaser featuring actor Robert Sheehan (who plays Klaus Hargreeves) with the words “trailer tomorrow” written on his hands.

While the original Hargreeves siblings are coming back for season 2, expect new additions to the cast featuring new, non-comic characters such as Lila (played by Ritu Arya), Raymond (played by Yusuf Gatewood) and Sissy (played by Marin Ireland). According to the synopsis, “a trio of ruthless Swedish assassins” will also be joining them.

After that cliffhanger in season 1 which was adapted mostly from Way’s and illustrator Gabriel Bá’s volume 1 “Apocalypse Suite” of the comic, many are expecting season 2 to take off from the comics’ volume 2 “Dallas” following the Hargreeves in the 1960’s. However, the series was also known to deviate from the plot of the comics so we can’t fully claim this for sure.

Guess we’ll have to wait for tomorrow to find out more.
