Whether you’re living and breathing the minimalist style or love creating harmony through a cluttered look, you’ll agree that the right homeware can end up being the pièce de résistance in a room.
When (my Hollywood crush) Dakota Johnson did a house tour for Architectural Digest, she said that she never thought she’d be a dish person because she didn’t get why anyone would want to collect loads of dishes. She grew to love displaying porcelain sets in her cabinet because, hello, they just look so cool. Isn’t that such a mood?
From vases to plates and everything in between, I go crazy thinking about how I can decorate the wasteland that is my shelf. They’re not barren but I am guilty of just placing things on them without care. If you’re like me, maybe it’s time to finally go with the plan to up your shelfie game.
Not sure if homeware is your thing yet? Plant parents might want to consider them as far more striking options for housing their babies compared to regular pots. They can also be great gifts for friends. I personally love getting random presents from my BFF who goes, “IDK, I bought it because I thought you’d like it.”
Whatever your needs are, these local Instagram homeware shops are here to deliver with some much-needed ceramic eye candies.
Homestudio.ph
The folks at Homestudio.ph aren’t just all about that vase. (Forgive for this attempt at wordplay.) Apart from quirky vases, their curated collection includes stoneware dinner sets, marble bowls, colored glass goblets and crystal glasses.
But if it’s the vases that excite you, they sure don’t disappoint. If you’re looking for something modern chic, they have geometric pieces in solid but soft colors that fit the bill. They also have textured and printed varieties if you’re going for a more funky and adventurous vibe.
The store ships within Metro Manila through Grab or Lalamove.
Vintage Vibe PH
Run by Japanese ceramics collector Tria, Vintage Vibe PH is, as the name suggests, here to add that vintage vibe to your home. They have an impressive collection of tableware in earthy tones as well as East Asian white and blue porcelain.
You might assume that they have run-of-the-mill pieces that are easily found in your neighborhood’s Japanese surplus shop, but they have some nice finds that might happen to be exactly what you’re searching for, like a pair of bows with a pattern of Japanese waves and cat. Another one that caught my eye was a glazed bowl with a delicate pink sakura blossom print and a curvy rim. I’m also pretty partial to the leaf plates and teapots with wooden handles. They could add a touch of romance and magic to an otherwise dreary day.
They ship via Lalamove or JRS Express.
Platobazu
Platobazu handpicks earthenware so you don’t have to. And if you’re wondering if they only offer plates and drinking glasses, I’m happy to divulge that that is not the case. They also have an assortment of vases and pitchers that can be used as such.
There’s a sweet Figgjo Turi design skillet dish that would be so cute to hang in your kitchen or dining room. There’s a jade-colored vase with a shape that could rival a perfume bottle and could look so, so classy in your living room. They have this big glazed coral that could function as an attractive multihole plant pot.
The shop delivers in and out of the metro through courier services.
Krete Manila
Of course, I couldn’t round up a homeware shop list without including one founded by Filipino designers. Krete Manila is a brand run by University of Santo Tomas industrial design graduates Daniel Ubas and Viktoria Laguyo that creates bespoke products.
They have pieces that you can order such as the “X TRNZ,” a miniature concrete sculpture of “Loon” by artist Terence Eduarte. Their signature products are their “Confetti” trays which utilize the Terrazzo technique. Instead of the usual scrap marble, quartz and granite as aggregates, they use concrete scraps from their own workshop. They also craft bird paperweight figurines, ring boxes and even dog bowls.
