Andrew Scott, the Irish actor who played the hot priest in “Fleabag” (and subsequently stole so many hearts that Amazon Prime made a two-minute tribute to the hot priest), will be starring opposite Lily James in a new miniseries. “The Pursuit of Love” will be an adaptation of a 1945 romantic comedy novel of the same name by Nancy Mitford.
The book follows the escapades of two young aristocrats “in the English countryside during the inter-war period.” It’s similar to the “Great Gatsby” in that the novel’s main protagonist is the aristocratic Linda Radlett, but the story’s narrator isn’t her. Instead, it’s her cousin and best friend Fanny Logan. If you’re a fan of watching semi-serious period dramas about rich people and their issues (this is a self-own), keep an eye out for this one.
The show, which will be a co-production between BBC and Amazon, will be directed by Emily Mortimer, who is more known as an actor whose extensive acting credits include “Notting Hill” and “Shutter Island.” James will be playing Linda, while Emily Beecham (she was The Widow in “Into the Badlands”) will be playing Fanny. No word yet, however, on the identity of Scott’s character. Until then, I’ll imagine him reprising his “Fleabag” role for the new show somehow—now that Phoebe Waller Bridge confirmed that “Fleabag” won’t be coming back, this is all I have. Let me dream.
