Lea Salonga is the latest BTS ARMY recruit

If “Lea Salonga coming out as a BTS stan” is on your 2020 bingo card, consider this your lucky day. Earlier today, the world-renowned singer-actress shared an article titled “Dynamite” that she wrote for The Philippine Daily Inquirer. She tweeted the link with the caption, “Backstory’s out!” From the looks of it, she may be coming for Paulo Coelho’s fan-favorite famous ARMY writer title.

Salonga began her story with the line, “I’ve fallen into a BTS rabbit hole, and no, I don’t need saving.” She reveals that she joined the fandom because of her fellow tita friends on Facebook who kept sharing videos of the boys as their happy pill, the group’s televised performances and the record-breaking single “Dynamite.”

Apart from chronicling some of their achievements, she highlighted how their latest song, “maybe unintentionally,” is a response to “everyone spewing hatred and bile” in the last couple of months. She mentions how a Fil-American friend spat on as she was heading to the post office and how similar stories gave rise to campaigns dedicated to fighting racism during the pandemic.

“All over, there is hate, ignorance, sadness, heartbreak, raging anger, anxiety and fear. And what does BTS do? Release a single whose seemingly sole intent is to make people happy,” she said. “BTS through this one song is lighting up the sky with positivity and love, comforting and cheering us on during this frightening time, and reminding us that there’s still beauty and goodness left in the world.”

In a recent video interview with David Gordon, she opened up about embracing the stanning experience. She told him, “As somebody who’s Asian, do you have any idea how happy I am that they’re on Billboard’s number one spot on the Hot100 chart?”

This isn’t the first time she has tweeted about the group either. When she first asked about that “K-pop boy band on ABC’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve” in 2018, fellow ARMY Darren Espanto was quick to introduce her to the group.

This is pretty far-fetched but a Lea Salonga x BTS collab would be amazing.
