Ben&Ben’s fandom name has us feeling some type of way

It’s been a great year for the Ben&Ben fans (or at least as good as it can get under quarantine). The award-winning Filipino folk-pop band dropped the single “Lifetime” in June, caught the attention of K-pop stars and launched their weekly YouTube series “BBTV.” Tonight, they dropped another surprise to thank their fans for their three years of support. Ben&Ben now has an official fandom name.

Taking their cues from K-pop, the band announced through their freshly minted official fandom Twitter account that we shall henceforth call their fans Lights. Why Lights? The band wrote in a touching message, “In all the times we see you and get to perform our hearts out, our purpose has always been to shine a light through everything we do as people and as a band. In these dark times, YOU have given us light.” Pass us the aux cord because this had us wanting to blast “Mahiwaga,” unshed tears in our eyes and all.

Lead vocalist Miguel Guico also had personal video message for Lights. “Ang purpose namin hanggang ngayon ay ang samahan ang bawat isang nakikinig sa music namin hanggang sa maging mas okay na yung mga bagay. At sa past three years na ginagawa namin ‘to, sobrang saya namin na nakilala namin kayo. At ang narealize namin, sa kadilimang nangyayari ngayon, kaya nating harapin ang lahat ng ‘to kung magkakasama tayo,” he told fans.

These days, all of us can benefit from positive energy and affirmation. If you’re not getting that from your quaranfling (is that still a thing?), then you can get your dose from Ben&Ben. Name a luckier fandom than Lights. We’ll wait.
