For the longest time, we’ve been told “Haters gonna hate” when it comes to anything (especially our online life) but model Nicole Poturalski just changed the “haters” game on her Instagram.
Poturalski, a German model and Brad Pitt’s girlfriend, took to her Insta stories to address the hateful comments she had been receiving on her posts since rumors of her relationship with Pitt started, with people questioning her open marriage and her and Pitt’s 29-year age gap. Having had enough, she called her haters out for their rude behavior and why they feel the need to act this way. She said on her Insta stories via Us Weekly, “Why? What is the benefit? Just in general, I want to understand the train of thought. Because I don’t get it. It’s just so rude and sad for those commenting.”
As online life comes with complete accessibility, Poturalski continued to remind people that it takes much less energy to unfollow whoever it is you hate than it is to leave hurtful comments, “And just don’t follow people you don’t want to see or don’t like their content. Easy.” She then urged people to choose kindness or at least to try.
While it still remains a mystery why haters go to such lengths to inflict hurt, Poturalski reminds us that sometimes it helps to take a stand against them rather than to let the hate continue without speaking out or attempting to understand where it comes from. It is a different move from the non-responses we are taught towards normalized online hate and urges us to help people to choose kindness and understanding.
