Missing the camp and theatricality of Halloween? Local fashion brand Toqa fuses their signature sport resort aesthetic with the party scene in their upcoming launch Rave Cave: A Toqa Halloween Treat.
In collaboration with Manila’s queer underground community, Toqa will be recreating the magical Halloween that we thought we lost to the pandemic by revealing the collection. Paying homage to Manila’s club culture, the label will be releasing 16 full-looks styled and modeled by Elephant Party organizer and nightlife icon Paul Jatayna while Unknwn’s co-founder and TodayxFuture’s part-owner DJ Samantha Nicole will be curating a playlist for the Halloween treat. While the official release date still remains a mystery, we got to speak with Toqa girls Isabel Sicat and Aiala Valdovino about the upcoming collection.
“The clubs and spaces we’d usually haunt this time of year are ghosts now. Given the devastating dearth of camp, glam and debauchery, we thought it might be a timely treat to drop a goodie into the world’s metaphorical candy bucket; conjuring a little Halloween magic in the form we know best. We hope it’d be a little elixir, to stave off, for one moment of fantasy, the stifling seriousness of this year,” they wrote to us.
We actually got a sneak peek of their collection before in the initial release of their “Moodyisle” collection earlier in February. It debuted with a short film featuring Palawan locals and actors who embodied Toqa’s vision of island identity.
In the film, we saw a glimpse of the formerly-secret collection in the “Rave Cave” segment which showed Jatayna, clad in the collection, dancing in a cave.
