Karlie Kloss dissed by Tavi Gevinson for keeping ties with Trump in-laws

Today in Hollywood, model Karlie Kloss is getting flak for her last-minute tweet meant to distance herself from her Trump in-laws after that infamous riot by Trump followers.

On Jan. 7, Kloss shared her thoughts on the pro-Trump protest where his supporters (or domestic terrorists, if you prefer) seized the US Capitol building. “Accepting the results of a legitimate democratic election is patriotic. Refusing to do so and inciting violence is anti-American,” the model tweeted. A netizen said in a now-deleted reply: “Tell [that to] your sister in law and brother [in] law.”

The response from Kloss (who married Joshua Kushner in 2018) is probably the closest she has gotten to subtweeting her in-laws Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump. “I’ve tried,” she said. The tweet has also since been deleted. Harper’s Bazaar called it “an ambitious pitch” considering that Kushner and Trump (a.k.a Javanka) are Pres. Trump’s senior adviser and daughter respectively.

Perhaps Kloss should have stuck to her guns to distance herself further from her sister-in-law who tried to save face by deleting a much-criticized tweet. On Jan. 6, Trump received flak after calling the pro-Trump protesters “American patriots.” Ivanka wrote in the deleted tweet: “American Patriots, any security breach or disrespect to our law enforcement is unacceptable. The violence must stop immediately. Please be peaceful.”

Former editor-in-chief of Rookie Mag and actress Tavi Gevinson was among those who gave Kloss a piece of their mind. “What @karliekloss means to say is: ‘I have no real interest in using my political power so much as maintaining a watery ‘feminist’ liberal brand while protecting my ties to the Trumps and Kushners[,] and vaguely claiming I’ve ‘tried’ to change their minds. I’ve had 4+ years to be explicit and specific about the threats my in-laws pose. Instead, I’ve chosen to help legitimize their bigotry by branding us as simply having different ‘political views,’” she wrote. Now THAT is one hell of a burn.

Kloss has yet to respond to her critics. Instead, she has tweeted a photo of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris with the caption: “Congratulations President-Elect Biden and Vice President-Elect Harris. Your leadership gives me hope.” Baby steps, I guess?
