Today isn’t just any other Tuesday—it’s National Trail Mix Day. And if our celebrations for National S’mores Day are any indication, we always pay extra attention to reasons we can devour good food.
We dropped by the headquarters of Better Health, a delivery meal service that centers on providing nutritious food suited to your dietary needs and achieving your #Fitspo’s. Sargon Petros, founder of Better Health, shared with us a simple recipe for trail mix that doesn’t load up on too much sugar or oil as other trail mixes tend to do. “It’s easy to fool yourself into thinking you’re eating healthy because you are snacking on trail mix,” he says. “People forget that dried fruit still have high GI (glycemic index) levels and the usual [store-bought] peanuts have high amounts of salt and oil.” He then tells us to be very picky with what we put in our trail mix and also not to have too much. “As with everything, it’s best to eat in moderation,” Sargon tells us. A serving of about 40 to 45 grams (about a handful) is the ideal amount for the whole day.
