Golden Globe nominee Dolly de Leon sounds about right

The Dolly de Leon awards campaign is going as well as we’d hoped it would. The veteran actress can now add the title of first Filipina Best Supporting Actress Golden Globe nominee to her growing list of recognition from Hollywood award-giving bodies for her performance in satirical black comedy “Triangle of Sadness.”

The nominees for the 80th Golden Globe Awards were announced yesterday, Dec. 12. Joining her under the Best Supporting Actress category are Angela Bassett for “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” Jamie Lee Curtis for “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” Carey Mulligan for “She Said,” and Kerry Condon for “The Banshees of Inisherin.” While international critical acclaim isn’t necessarily the true measure of great art, it’s still so great to see a Filipina be celebrated alongside Hollywood legends. That’s mother.

This news follows de Leon’s Best Supporting Performer win with “Everything Everywhere All At Once” star Ke Huy Quan at the 2022 Los Angeles Film Critics Association Awards on Dec. 12. “It’s an honor and a privilege to be recognized by critics who think outside the box and recognize the artistry of film-making. I’m proud to represent every individual who is struggling in their chosen industry—much like Abigail. Every single soul who’s watched the film would know what I’m talking about. If you haven’t, go out and find out. It’s still in cinemas dito sa ‘tin. Para sa’tin ‘to,” de Leon said in a press statement.

Palme d’Or winner “Triangle of Sadness” is still playing in select cinemas and has limited screenings in Cinematheque Centres for those looking for tickets at P200. But it may not be for long since the 2022 Metro Manila Film Festival is just around the corner. Get to know de Leon as the cruise ship toilet manager turned captain of castaways named Abigail while you still can.

Still need motivation for taking that trip to the cinema? We’ll let captain Abigail do the talking in this funny promo video.
