Binibining Pilipinas titleholder Samantha Lo is her girlfriend’s little spoon

Who says height determines whether you’re the big or little spoon in a relationship? Binibining Pilipinas Grand International 2019 Samantha Lo and her non-showbiz girlfriend Jannica Rubin certainly don’t think so after the couple went public through the sweetest Instagram birthday greeting we’ve seen in a while.

Lo shared a video of Rubin and herself slow dancing to Adele’s “Make You Feel My Love” on Jan. 18. The video ends with the pair sharing sweet kisses. “I know that many of you will have questions after seeing this post so I will answer the question we all want to know: Yes, I am the little spoon. Happy birthday, little pea,” she wrote in the caption.

Rubin’s short and sweet response? “Thank you, baby pea!” They’re inspiring us to love who we want to love and spoon who we want to spoon.

Among friends who commented on the post is Binibining Pilipinas Grand International 2021 Samantha Panlilio who wrote, “Que sweet!”

While the couple kept their romance private in the past, they haven’t been hiding each other from the rest of the world either. In fact, some fans have been feeling kilig over their previous photos together.

Take these photos of Lo not-so-subtly holding on to Rubin from a May 2022 post with the caption, “Just because 😉”

And here’s the pair at Mt. Kupapey in a post with the caption, “My forever hiking buddy.”

Over on Rubin’s Instagram feed, you might catch Lo’s reflection while she’s  taking a photo of Rubin on what seems to be their date. It’s giving such a classic couple picture vibe. Lo has been on Rubin’s feed as early as 2020 and it makes us wonder if they were already together at the time.

Back in 2019, Lo and her fellow Binibining Pilipinas titleholders did a Pride Month interview with the Philippine Daily Inquirer. Lo, stated that gay people are some of the most nurturing individuals she has encountered. “If I could be a quarter as nurturing as they are, my life would be fulfilled,” she said.

The beauty queen also criticized negativity towards Pride celebrations. “We celebrate a lot of other things that aren’t even productive. And this is a time to celebrate something that is inspiring, relatable. The bottomline is, why not celebrate it?” she said.

It’s lowkey thrilling to know that Lo is joining the ranks of proudly queer beauty queens alongside the likes of the happily married Miss Argentina and Miss Puerto Rico. There’s a place for queer people in traditional pageants, too.
