You think you choose to be with your significant other because of how he understands you and makes you laugh? Think again.
A new study published in Genome Biology says that we primarily are attracted to people with height genes that complement our own. Out of the 13,000 couples surveyed for the study, 89 percent of the couples who had matching preferences for height and actual genes were linked. Simply put, people who like a certain height requirement from their loved one do end up with someone with a genetic code that matches that preference.
Although the other factors such as emotional attachment, hobbies, and personality still weigh in when it comes to choosing who you want to be with, but our preference for height and the corresponding genes narrows down our field of options.
So before letting yourself be set up for a blind date, maybe you can ask your friend about the guy’s genes and how tall he is.
