In a string of controversial statements by our new President, Rodrigo Duterte adds one more. This time, it’s about the war on drugs as he urges citizens to even shoot the drug lords on their own if they catch them.
The latest statement has quickly caught on with the international media as CBS reports on the matter and Time reposting the issue.
Though Rodrigo seems confident in his new plans to deter crime, which include reinstating the death penalty and giving the police shoot-to-kill orders, we have really yet to see if he can implement them given the opposition he has received even before he has formally taken office. However, the new president’s proclamations are already alarming as some supporters have already taken matters into their own hands. Over the past weekend, five men, suspected of crime and drug involvement were found dead in the Negros region.
