Meet the Woman Who Will Play Marvel’s First Female Superhero: Brie Larson

Fresh from her Oscars win, Brie Larson was officially announced as the first actress to headline Marvel’s strongest female character known as Captain Marvel—that basically means Brie will be the first to front her own Marvel movie which is set to be released come 2018 or 2019.

Carol Danvers, aka Captain Marvel, is an Air Force pilot who gains supernatural powers through alien DNA. Marvel comic writer Kelly Sue DeConnick described her to Vanity Fair as “a woman with a military background, a feminist background.”

Brie quickly posted a photo of herself sporting a Marvel Studios cap with the caption “Call me Captain Marvel.”

With her previous Oscar win, an upcoming movie with Tom Hiddleston, and now her very own Marvel movie, we definitely can’t wait for more.
