How Did Kris Aquino Get a Hollywood Role?

Updated on April 17, 2017, 4:28 p.m.

Looks like our guess was right. Kris Aquino has officially landed a role in Crazy Rich Asians. She’s the first Filipina to be cast in the film.

According to Inquirer.net, Kris is slated to play an Asian princess, either of Bruneian or Malaysian descent. She will star alongside Michelle Yeoh, Henry Golding, Constance Wu, Sonoya Mizuno, and Gemma Chan.

The film will be directed by Jon M. Chu, who promises an all-Asian cast for the romantic comedy.

We can’t wait how the entire film will turn out. Congratulations again, Kris!

Kris Aquino is taking a major step in her career as she is about to sign a contract for a Hollywood film. But how did the “Queen of All Media” get it?

In an Instagram post, Kris shared how Tony and Grammy-winning Broadway producer Jhett Tolentino contacted her about the role. “He was helping a Filipino-Chinese-American agent friend of his reach me to ask if I’d want to audition for a big Hollywood studio movie [that’s] about to start filming,” she writes.

Kris then submitted test reels and attended an audition at Manila Peninsula. She adds that she “passed 5 levels of intense scrutiny and was offered the role.”

“It is surreal to be reading the script from a major Hollywood studio watermarked on every page with my name,” she continues.

As of posting time, Kris may have already landed in LA to meet with the film’s team and sign the contract. We still don’t know the details yet as she’s not allowed to share much.

If we were to guess, she might (emphasis on “might”) just star in the film adaptation of Crazy Rich Asians. Author Kevin Kwan recently followed her on Instagram and he also teased that there will be more surprises for the cast. Hmmm.

Anyway, good luck on your future endeavors, Kris!
