This year at the MET Gala, Sarah Jessica Parker wore retail with a dress she co-designed with the H&M team. The one-shouldered black silk dress came with a train embroidered with Scarlet poppies (not to mention this huge flaming Philip Treacy headdress as big as her head, maybe even bigger). The catch? The fabric and embellishment are made of sustainable material. Vanessa Hudgens, Banks, and Janelle Monae jumped right in on the H&M trend as well. (H&M)
The second, “unofficial” Saint Laurent film is out. Less on the glamour, the biopic is drawn towards the designer’s way to madness—paved by addiction and prolificacy. In it, we see how fashion design became Saint Laurent’s biggest demon but also his saving grace. (Vulture)
Last week Reese Witherspoon joined the ranks of celebrity-cum-businesswomen with the launch of Draper James—a lifestyle and fashion website inspired by (or targeted mainly for) the Southern belle. There are printed stationary, custom cocktail napkins, and various items with a magnolia motif, such as a sterling silver bowl, statement necklace, and gold link bracelet. Oh, my word! I guess ya’ll just have to check it out, then. (Telegraph)
Resort collections have started ushering in and first to arrive were Louis Vuitton at Palm Springs and Chanel in Seoul. The Bob and Dolores Hope Estate housed Nicolas Ghesquière’s Vuitton 2016 collection where our very own Kim Jones hobnobbed with fellow blogger Margaret Zhang. Highlights were Kanye West sitting front row, editors in sinking heels in the middle of the desert, and flame-haired models. (The New York Times)
As the Late Show with David Letterman bid farewell, so did Tina Fey’s dress. Before stripping down, she declared, “This is my last time wearing a fancy dress on a talk show and conforming to gender norms out of respect to you,” as David stood up awkwardly to unzip her. Underneath, she wore a bra, heavy-duty Spanx, and a bodysuit with “BYE DAVE!” lettering on the front and “#lastdressever” on the bum. If that isn’t a tribute, we don’t know what is! (Jezebel)
