Kris Aquino is currently working on a movie titled I Love You, Hater with Julia Barretto and Joshua Garcia. The details of the movie have been under wraps for a while now but Kris shared that the film is a little too close to home.
In an interview with Bandera, Kris shared that she broke down into tears while reading some lines. “Bilib ako sa writer kasi all the biggest hits (movies) had been hers and she always create lines na may lalim na unexpectedly meron na minsan as simple two sentences, nagulat ako kasi I have little motivation, nag-break down ako.” (I believe in the writer because all the biggest hits had been hers and she always creates lines that are unexpectedly deep. There was one time, as simple as two sentences, I was surprised because I have little motivation but I broke down.)
Kris also said that the character is “really me” and had to ask to change one detail in the film, which is that she shouldn’t have kids. “They just had to differentiate na no children at ni-request ko ‘yun kasi it would be too close to home,” she said.
She added that her character is separated from her husband because she didn’t bear any children and initially, Kris’ mom would be sick. She also asked to change that detail because it’s similar to what happened to her real mom, former president Corazon Aquino. “Sabi ko hindi ako comfortable, puwede bang dad na lang? And ako ang nag-request for tito Ronaldo (Valdez) kasi sa Sukob he was our dad ni Claudine (Barretto).” (I said I wasn’t comfortable. ‘Can it be a dad instead?’ And I requested for tito Ronaldo Valdez because he was our (Claudine Barretto and I) dad in Sukob.)
So far, the movie sounds pretty heavy. But Kris promised that there are rom-com elements as well.
There’s no release date for I Love You, Hater yet. But who’s excited to see the movie once it’s out?
