If you think celebrities don’t have time to do anything else apart from showbiz commitments, you’re wrong. While many can still sneak in workouts, collaborations, and movies on top of movies, there are also those who chose to study and get a degree.
Of course, this isn’t an easy feat for anyone since they’re doing this while working on a lot of things. Still it’s admirable to see someone excelling in their chosen fields. And mind you, they’re probably still studying even when after doing late-night shoots. I could never.
Anyway, here are the local celebrities who took up college and vocational courses, and even got a degree while in showbiz.
Bea Alonzo
Bea Alonzo recently had a graduation dinner party after finishing her baking course at the Center for Culinary Arts Manila. Despite it being a short course, Bea said she’d always wanted to learn how to bake but was intimidated by the thought. “I promised myself that I will do things that [intimidate] or [scare] me. I promised myself that I will learn new things and try to go out of my comfort zone,” she said on Instagram.
Jodi Sta. Maria
While filming for Sana Dalawa Ang Puso, Jodi Sta. Maria enrolled in a BS Psychology program at Southville International Schools and Colleges. The 36-year-old actress once told Boy Abunda that she wants to take up a pre-med course to pursue her dream of specializing in oncology. She’s also shown time and time again that a hectic showbiz sched shouldn’t hinder someone from becoming an honor student.
Liza Soberano
Also pursuing BS Psychology in Southville International Schools and Colleges is Liza Soberano. The star went back to school last year, along with onscreen partner and rumored boyfriend Enrique Gil, expressing her excitement to finish her studies. According to Southville International School affiliated with Foreign Universities’ (SISFU) website, Liza first took up Business Management under the De Montfort University, UK program. But last July, she shifted to Psychology.
Kathryn Bernardo
Kathryn Bernardo has had several projects in the past few years that you’d never have guessed that she’s also studying in Enderun Colleges. She’s currently taking up a marketing management course. Take note that she’s doing this on top of a blockbuster movie and a makeup collab.
Kim Chiu
Kim Chiu has a college degree in business management from the University of the Philippines’ Open University. She graduated in 2015. In a newspaper column, Kim said that she chose the course because she currently own business franchises like Potato Corner and Julie’s Bakery. She also expressed that she wants to open her own restaurant in the future as well.
Dingdong Dantes
In 2014, Dingdong Dantes finished Business Administration major in Marketing Management at the West Negros University. Supportive wife Marian Rivera was there with him as he received his diploma during his graduation.
Judy Ann Santos
Judy Ann Santos didn’t just start a cooking YouTube channel out of nowhere. She went back to school in 2006 and finished a culinary course at the Center for Asian Culinary Studies in San Juan and graduated with honors.
