Read this if you’re scrambling for last-minute Halloween costumes

Over the weekend, we’ve already seen a lot of people in costume and attending Halloween parties everywhere in the metro. Our favorites, TBH, were the celebrity baby costumes this year. We still have a few days left in October and we’re still waiting to see more on our feeds.

Meanwhile, some of you may be scrambling to put together a Halloween look for your upcoming party/ies. Don’t worry, we know how it feels to whip up a last-minute costume and we’re here to tell you that it’s not a hassle to come up with one. Just breathe and follow these tips below—we’re sure you’ll find what works for you in no time!

Look through your wardrobe—REALLY look

Remember that your costume doesn’t have to be elaborate. For example, if you want to dress up like one of your favorite cartoon characters, you can just wear something with a similar color or design. You can also look up certain costumes that you can pull off with what you already have in your wardrobe.

Finding the right accessories

Last weekend, I was at the mall browsing for accessories for a Halloween party and discovered affordable ones in Landmark Makati. (I bought a clip-on veil á la that dramatic red-lipped Facebook filter.) There are also buy one, take one deals for earrings and necklaces. Just know all the right accessory stores and spots to complete your outfit without going over-budget.

No need for face paint or prosthetics

If you’ve been watching these spooky beauty tutorials, you might’ve seen them use face and body paint, as well as prosthetics. Now these are some pro stuff and you don’t need to go that far. There are also YouTube tutorials that show relatively easy makeup looks to go with your costume. My current favorites are Atleeeey’s “The Girl with the Green Ribbon” and NikkieTutorials’ half mask inspired by Shawn Mendes’ album.

Play with your hair

You can finally color your hair pink or whatever vibrant shade you’ve been planning for months. But if you can’t commit to it yet, there are products that’ll give you temporary color. Or, you can go the easy route and get a wig.

DIY everything

Story time: I have a friend who can come up with witty last-minute costumes like a magic 8 ball (glued a circular 8 on a black shirt) and another one where she used a cardboard box to dress up as DoodleBob. Our graphic artist, Marian, even made her own zip tie crown inspired by Amber Heard’s Met Gala 2018 look. All you need is time, patience, and the right materials to make your ideal costume.
