Dubbed as the queen of Tejano music, Selena Quintanilla’s name still remains as one of pop culture’s enduring icons. Now the life and legacy she left behind, 23 years after her untimely death, will be honored through a scripted series produced by Netflix and none other than her own family.
“Selena will always have a lasting place in music history and we feel great responsibility to do justice to her memory. With this series, viewers will finally get the full history of Selena, our family, and the impact she has had on all of our lives,” Selena’s sister Suzette Quintanilla said. “We are excited to partner with Campanario and Netflix to give fans a never-before-seen glimpse at our story and highlight why Selena will remain a legend for generations to come.”
Described as a coming-of-age story, no other details have been announced regarding Selena: The Series other than the fact that Moisés Zamora will pen the script and executive produce the series alongside Campanario Entertainment president Jaime Davila, Rico Martinez, Suzette Quintanilla, Selena’s father Abraham Quintanilla Jr., and Simran A. Singh.
Although many are excited about this announcement, they also have their reservations. Understandably, they want this portrayal to give their idol’s legacy justice. Many are especially keen about the casting.
