Miss Spain Angela Ponce may not have made it to this year’s top 10, but she’s still a winner to many fans’ hearts. The first trans contestant in the Miss Universe pageant, her participation in the competition was in itself a great victory for the LGBTQ+ community.
Here are just some of the emotional reactions as seen on Twitter by those moved by Miss Spain and her Miss Universe journey.
Kinikilabutan ako. The arena gave a standing ovation for Miss Spain! So much love. TRANSGENDER WOMEN ARE WOMEN! #MissUniverse ❤️ pic.twitter.com/JKaS9pezzW

You know what’s louder than the online bullying and violence hurled against Miss Spain, the first trans Miss Universe candidate?
It’s the earth-shattering noise created by the glass ceiling she broke. Others might get the crown & other prizes, but Miss Spain, she gets the sky.

We love you, Miss Spain. You are also a winner in our hearts!
#MissSpain Angela Ponce said in the AVP that if she could bring hope to the trans community and be able to educate the younger generation, "I don't need to be #MissUniverse."
(BTW, we're teary-eyed. So powerful.)
