Known for her statement bib necklaces and embroidered handbags, accessories designer Nicole Whisenhunt has gone off in a completely different direction with Stockton Row. The Celestial collection, their fourth, arrives in time for the launch of the brand’s e-commerce website.
“This is the first collection that we’ve actually launched to the press, also with its own event, so is the first time that we’re independently going on our own,” she tells Preen. Past collections have been launched at group shows curated by boutique Cura-V, which Nicole co-owns with Kai Lim, Emi Jorge, Camille Ongpauco, and Trisha Calma.
Looking at her pieces from the Celestial collection, inspired by “galaxies, constellations intertwined with destinies,” they’re nothing like the heavily beaded, embellished, embroidered jewelry and accessories she became known for when she first started designing. “I’ve been doing very statement pieces over the past eight years, and I wanted to go a little bit cleaner and simpler. Things that are easy to wear,” she explains.
The brand, which she co-owns with friend Jenny Yrasuegi, came about in 2013. “The first collection happened about two years ago. When I started Stockton Row, one thing that was very important to me was for it to be affordable,” she says. True enough, prices range from P2,250 to P5,650 at most. In comparison to her namesake jewelry line, that’s a steal.
What’s interesting about the line is that you can take it certain pieces apart to mix and match, so that create your own unique piece. “By being able to interchange it, allows your piece a lot more mileage because you could use the stud and use another jacket, or you could our jacket and use a stud that you already own. It’s really meant for you to play with.”
Nicole and Jenny will be at Refinery in Joya Tower tomorrow from 2 p.m. onward to show customers how to mix and match the Celestian Collection with their classic pieces or even with you own personal jewelry. For more information on Stockton Row’s pop-up tomorrow, visit their Facebook event page.
