Grinches are real and you can find them at Christmas gatherings

Dr. Seuss’ Grinch is considered a mainstay character during Christmas season, mostly because the live-action movie is always being shown on TV. When you were younger, you probably watched it too many times that you already know what happens in every scene.

We all know the Grinch is a fictional furry green humanoid who is mean and tried to destroy Christmas for everyone. In the real world, you’d think no one would dare ruin the festive mood, but there are instances too. Sometimes they’re intentional, sometimes they’re not. And you know it’s bad when these people keep doing crappy things every year.

If you’re nodding your head right now, then it means that you know a person in your family or friend group who’s an absolute holiday party-pooper. We listed some of the traits below, you tell us if they remind you of anyone.

The tantrum-thrower

For this one, we’re excluding babies and toddlers because they’re super young and they don’t know any better anyway. But you probably met someone who would ruin the atmosphere because they didn’t get their way like their favorite noche buena not being included in the spread. They’re not going to be screaming and shouting at everyone, but they’ll do it just enough for you to feel that they already hate the holidays.

Demanding Donna

Donna isn’t a real person but people might as well be called that once they start demanding for gifts and money from their godparents. I mean, it’s fine to request nicely. But when they don’t get what’s expected from their ninong or ninang, they’ll ask “Why didn’t you get me [this item]?” Man, just be grateful you got something for Christmas.

Potty-mouth carolers

The holiday season is a time for carolers of various ages to go around the neighborhood, sing “Jingle Bells,” and wait until someone either hands them money or shouts “Patatawarin!” However, there are some carollers, mostly the kids, who hate being told the latter. They’ll say you’re “madamot” (selfish), even cuss, just loud enough for anyone to hear before leaving your front gate. (At that moment, though, you’d suddenly feel thankful that you didn’t hand them that P20.)

Always says no to costumes

Now, Christmas isn’t as costume-heavy as Halloween. I do know that there are parties that encourage people to wear something on-theme with the holiday—it can be as simple as a Santa hat, a reindeer headband, or an ugly sweater. No effort needed, really. But there can be people who don’t want to play along. When you ask them why, they’ll say, “I don’t want to look stupid.” Oh, don’t dare force them to wear something as well because he’ll just frown the whole night.

Scares people during noche buena

There’s that one person who tells everyone “Don’t eat too much, you’ll get fat” or “Don’t eat that lechon, heart attacks are common.” Come on! Let people enjoy food!
