Chadwick Boseman aka T’Challa may have been the leading star of Black Panther, but Letitia Wright, who played his sister in the film, beat him to the top spot of last year’s box office. According to Fandango, she is the highest box-office-earning actor of 2018, with total earnings amounting to a staggering $1.55 billion.
Aside from her role as the Wakandan princess in the Marvel film, she also played roles in some of 2018’s other hit movies, like Avengers: Infinity War, Ready Player One, and The Commuter.
But don’t celebrate just yet. Apparently, this “award” is not all that it seems. The actress revealed in a tweet that her bank account don’t necessarily reflect that.

It turns out, box office earnings don’t always translate to cold, hard cash, as Forbes explained. In fact, none of Fandango’s top-earning actors made it to Forbes’ list of highest-paid actors of 2018. That honor went to George Clooney. Though he did not appear in a single film this year, he reportedly got that coveted spot through his tequila company, in addition to endorsement earnings and royalties from older movies.
Nonetheless, we congratulate Letitia for bagging the title of box office queen last year.
