Get lucky: The colors you should wear for the Year of the Pig

By Jacqueline Ariason January 4, 2019

If you were born in the Year of the Pig, raise your hand because 2019 is going to be your year. (Maybe.) Starting Feb. 5, the Earth Pig will be the center of every Chinese New Year celebration. This symbol is said to bring good fortune, wealth, and stability.

With this comes questions about how to get lucky and how to bring in good energy. Aside from feng shui-ing your whole home, you can also wear this year’s lucky colors according to the Chinese horoscope. There are a lot to choose from and each color has their own meanings, so check out our picks below to see which one suits your needs this year.

Earth element

As mentioned, this is the Year of the Earth Pig, so two of the main lucky colors are brown and yellow (or shades similar to them). ChineseNewYear2019.org noted that yellow tones in particular will bring a “fresh, fruity, and sweet” vibe to 2019.

Brown: Bvlgari Diva’s Dream Sunglasses

Feel luxe with these Bvlgari shades. This pair has oval frames and brown-tinted lenses so it can complement any ensemble. You can also bring this with you to work or while traveling. Available at Vision Express stores.

Yellow: Mango Wooden Handle Leather Bag

This handbag will add a pop of color to your monochromatic wardrobe thanks to its mustard yellow hue. It also comes with a detachable strap in case you want to turn it into a crossbody or shoulder bag. Available on Zalora PH.

Fire element

According to KarmaWeather, it’s recommended to incorporate shades of red, orange, and pink to Earth element colors to increase the chances of attracting luck and positive energy. These will also add balance to your life and “harmonize the flows of energy” around you.

Red: Kate Spade Hear It Heartbeat Silk Midi Dress

You can wear this striking red dress during your weekend brunch. Pair it with heels or strappy sandals and a handbag. It has a flowy skirt so you’re sure to feel breezy even on warm days. Available at Central Square.

Orange: Keds Studio Leap Jersey

These sneakers give off a summery vibe, which is timely because the season is here in two months or so. The color also goes with the Living Coral theme of 2019, so it’s like you’re wearing two lucky charms. Available at Glorietta 3.

Pink: Tim Tam Ong UNITY Earrings

If you’re looking for dainty pink earrings, you might like these ones by Tim Tam Ong. It has pink gems and a dangling shell-like piece. This is part of the Filipino designer’s Heirloom collection, which is a tribute to her two sons. Available at Power Plant Mall.

Metal element

Another stabilizer are Metal elements, represented by white and gold. TheChineseZodiac.org explains white will balance out the appearance of other colors, especially ones that appear “strong, intense, and dominating.”

White: Sole Story The Noona Mules

Add a fun element to your outfit with these polka-dotted mules. They have pointed toes and kitten heels, fitting for both your jeans and your formal dresses. Available on Miz + Moxie.

Gold: Sara Battaglia Sequined Tulle Mini Skirt

Still can’t let go of metallic clothing? It’s okay because this lucky color will allow you to wear it more this year. This sequined skirt reminds us of fish scales, but in a good way. Be sure to wear a subdued top for this one so you won’t look too over-the-top. Available on Net-a-Porter.
