Margot Robbie is officially THE Barbie girl

It’s official: Margot Robbie is set to play everyone’s favorite sassy, pink-loving doll, Barbie. This is yet another iconic character the talented Margot will play, who’s also known for her roles as Harley Quinn and Mary Queen of Scots.

Not only that, but she will be co-producing the movie too. According to Refinery29, her husband, Tom Ackerley, as well as Josey McNamara—Margot’s partner in her production company, LuckyChap Entertainment—are also on board with the project.

Though we’ve already seen Barbie in several animated films before, this will mark the popular doll’s first live-action feature, thanks to the newly-formed partnership between Mattel and Warner Bros. This is the second attempt to  bring Barbie to life in the big screen. The first was in 2016, by Mattel and Sony, with Amy Schumer as initial choice for the titular role. Conflict in the comedienne’s schedule was cited as the reason the project fell through.

Though this latest attempt is already confirmed, details about the upcoming film, including the director, release date (rumors say it’s 2020), and castmates, are yet to be announced. (Who will play Ken?)

Still, fans are freaking out over this ~fantastic~ piece of information.

Let us know if you’re just as excited!
