Here’s what you need to know about Art Fair 2019

Art collectors and enthusiasts, get ready for another round of Art Fair Philippines. For it’s seventh edition, there will be a mix of commissioned work and existing pieces from different artists. There will be 36 galleries from the Philippines participating, including Artinformal, Vinyl on Vinyl, and Secret Fresh. Along with them will be 16 international galleries from Japan, Singapore, and Vietnam.

If you’re making your way there next week, stop by the central space of the venue to see David Medalla’s A Stitch in Time. This is a collaborative piece that allows viewers to “[sew] a trace of themselves onto a huge swathe of canvas.” This is definitely on my to-see list. Mauro Malang Santos’ son Soler Santos has chosen some of his father’s prints and drawings to be featured as well. These will depict Malang’s Women and if from the family’s private collection.

For this year’s recipient of the Karen H. Montinola Selection, it is Liv Vinluan. She “appropriates the volumizing power of textile design that has enthralled her by transforming a single roll of paper, called Stonehenge Vellum, into a three-dimensional Structure.”

After checking out some art, don’t forget to stop by the different ArtFairPH/Talks to further educate yourself. There will be many topics covered including a talk by Kathy Galitz who is a specialist on late eighteenth and nineteenth century French art.

Following last year’s success, ArtFairPH/Photo will also be back for another edition. This aims to “boost support for photography as contemporary art and expand its collectibility among Filipinos.” A perfect place for aspiring photographers as well.

This year’s Art Fair will be held at The Link Carpark from Feb. 22 to 24. That is a week away so there are other events in store for everyone till then. 10 Days of Art is also back and it starts today. During this time, you can visit participating galleries, restaurants, bars, and retail establishments to get into the Art Fair mood. These include public installations, exhibits, as well as musical performances. Check out their website for all the details because there’s a lot to cover.

Now that you have the information you need, don’t forget to buy your tickets in advance here so you don’t waste any time in line. Will we be seeing you there?
