Reading about superheroes always gets me excited and I end up in a blackhole of Internet searches while researching their background. Marvel, in particular, likes introducing new ones and how their stories will tie in with the existing roster. Their latest lineup includes Asian superheroes, including one female from the Philippines named Wave.
Marvel didn’t reveal a lot about her yet, including what she’ll look like. But here’s what we know so far and what we can expect from her once she appears in the four-part War of the Realms: Agents of Atlas comic series.
Is she good or bad?
According to Marvel, Wave will be part of the Agents of Atlas and she’s going up against Sindr’s (Immortal Queen of Muspelheim, the Norse realm of fire) forces as they attack Earth. The War of the Realms was originally a Thor storyline, but since the battles will reach areas like the Pacific Rim, it’s only right that the superheroes in that area will take charge.
So, yes, there’s a huge chance that Wave will be a good guy and she has equally badass teammates on her side.
The teammates
Wave will meet existing Marvel comics characters like Silk (a Korean-American female version of Spider-Man) and Amadeus Cho (aka the new Hulk). But she’ll also meet new heroes from China, Aero and Sword Master.
Possible Wave backstory
According to South China Morning Post, the Aero and Sword Master will wield weapons inspired by elements of Chinese legends. Their story will also be influenced by local folklore. Perhaps Wave’s story and powers will also come from similar elements from the Philippines. Based on her name, she’ll most likely have the power of water manipulation, or something like that.
What will she look like?
As mentioned, Wave doesn’t have an official art work yet—she’s also left out from the reveal. Marvel shared briefly that she’ll be “mysterious.” Maybe she’ll be a magical being that only appears at night. Either way, we hope that the artists (betting that they’ll be Filipinos) get it right.
When will she make her debut?
The first issue of War of the Realms: Agents of Atlas will come out in May. Wave will probably make an appearance here or in the next three issues in the series. And if she becomes popular, maybe Marvel will let her be recurring character.
