This woman mocked Yalitza Aparicio by wearing brownface and a prosthetic nose

This news story is also going to be a quick lesson on racism and what not to do. Have you watched Roma? If you have, you’re probably familiar with Mexican actress Yalitza Aparicio. She did such a good job in her first leading role that she received Best Actress nominations. Now, you can imagine everyone’s frustration when a TV personality decided to dress like her and put on “brownface.”

According to The Guardian, Yeka Rosales of Mexican-based Televisa Network “posted photos and videos of herself on social media wearing brown skin paint in an apparent parody of Aparicio, who attended the Oscars last week.” Aside from this, she also had on a prosthetic nose.

This was posted back in February but it is only now that people started to notice it. Televisa spokesman Alejandro Olmos addressed this saying, “We do not believe that the production of La Parodia engages in this type of practice.”

However, it did not stop there. A few days ago, Yeka posted a parody photo and video clip of Roma as part of the show. Clearly, she sees nothing wrong with it, and that’s the problem.

Indigenous people are often made fun off and what’s worse is that these people are actually gaining profit from it. Sorry, but we’re not laughing.
