Preen Picks: Ways to de-stress when you’re THIS close to breaking down

I don’t know about you, but to me, this year has been crazy—and it’s only March! Here at the Preen.ph HQ, we can definitely feel the heat. Everyone is so busy, and everyday feels like it’s never enough, with the amount of things we want to achieve—both at work and outside of it. There were times when things got too overwhelming, I find myself desperate to just take a quick moment to step back and destress. For me personally, just walking while listening to a good playlist immediately helps me clear my mind. I found that doing that simple exercise is so important, especially when I feel like my anxiety is getting the best of me. Getting stressed out is normal. It’s part of life, and it helps hone our character. But we should not let it impact us to the point that it’s unhealthy. Most of the time, denying yourself some self-care only makes your anxiety worse.

If you’re feeling stressed out too, and not sure how you can lift that off your shoulders, this might help you. People from our office shared their de-stressing techniques, which you can try too.

Pamper session

After a long tiring day I usually take a long ass shower, put a sheet mask on, open bottle of wine  and Netflix the night away until I fall asleep. I also meditate. I’m subscribed to this annual plan by an app called Headspace created by a former monk and Ted Talk speaker about awareness and mindfulness, Andy Puddicombe. – JP Talapian, Photographer

Sleep

Sleep acts as a way of resetting one’s thought and emotions. Sometimes we fail to consider [the reason] why we’re stressed is because there’s so much happening in [our] hearts (emotions) and mind.  – Karl Ressureccion, Account Executive

Practice the “Kimmy Schmidt” technique

Whenever I feel overwhelmed, I usually just take a deep breath, close my eyes, and chant “I’m not really here!” a few times like Kimmy Schimdt. I also learned a fantastic way to bear with things from the TV show where you just count one to ten and then repeat. – Christian San Jose, Junior Content Creator, Northern Living, Southern Living, NoliSoli.ph

Netflix and chill

I eat what I want! Hahaha just kidding! Mostly I get coffee plus a snack then I watch RuPaul’s Drag Race or whatever good is on Netflix. – Sam Ong, Photo and Video Content Creator

I de-stress by watching Netflix or having a scoop of my favorite chocolate ice cream. Or both actually! Since I go around places a lot for work and personal projects, I’d like to stay in once in a while. -Marian Hukom, Junior designer for Preen.ph and Multisport.ph

Meme-therapy

Whenever I’m feeling stressed out, I usually want to sleep. Or just take a break, go outside [and] breathe some fresh air. With this, I could refresh my mind and my body. Sometimes I buy myself something I’m craving for, telling myself, “it’s alright I deserve this.” And sometimes, when I [have no] time to do these, I just simply browse for memes. Memes can cool down your temper haha – Argyl Leones, Video Editor

Play video games

To de-stress, I play video games. I am a very competitive person so I like online games like PUBG and COD. I can spend hours playing. If not though, I just meditate and take a nap! – Melanie Chang, Editorial Graphic Artist

Ever since my family got a Family Computer last Christmas, my stress-reliever became playing Circus Charlie and Millipede. I also try to beat my own record everyday—somehow, it makes me relaxed, but not so much that I’ll feel like I’m full-fledged slacking off. It just keeps my mind running in a way. Aside from this, I also like journaling as it makes my creative juices flowing. It does help a lot when I list down the things I’m thankful for the day. – Jelou Galang, Junior Content Creator, Scout

Shower

When I’m stressed out, as weird as this sounds, I take a shower. It’s just the perfect way to destress for me and get my mind out of what’s bugging me. I go to the gym as well every now and then or maybe relax my mind a bit by staying away from what’s stressing me out (if I have the time) then get back to it when my mind seems more fresh. – Nicole Ganglani, Junior Content Creator, Multisport.ph

Drink tea… or milk tea

When I feel stressed out, I drink tea (I’m a non-coffee drinker hehe) and listen to Your Discover Weekly playlist on Spotify. I also do stretching and try to get fresh air so I can breathe all the stress out.  -Lyle Pendon, Junior Content Creator, Customs

My de-stressing methods vary. Most times I just feel like napping or watching Netflix and YouTube videos (with my cat sleeping on my tummy) at home. When I’m out, I’m either grabbing a milk tea or getting a facial done when I need it. – Jackie Arias, Content Creator, Preen.ph

Focus on something you’re passionate about

I usually turn to napping when I’m stressed. However, sometimes I notice that it doesn’t work that much. It just lets me escape my problems for a few hours. When I want to let go but still be kind of productive, I DJ. It’s a passion I picked up when I was really down so I always turn to that. I can get lost mixing track after track for hours, a great way to recenter myself. – Tisha Ramirez, Content Creator, Preen.ph
