Ladies, you can wear a suit on your wedding day too

Growing up, I always had a traditional mindset when it came to weddings and getting married. I imagined having a big celebration and party with a big cake and outfit changes—the whole nine yards. The older I got, the more that image changed. Now, I just want a very intimate ceremony with just family and close friends. Although, I still want to throw a party for everyone—I love to party so this is still happening. But, one thing that changed just recently is what I want to wear.

I always pictured myself in a gown, like a lot of women do. I can’t tell you how many photos I have pinned on Pinterest and saved on Instagram. I had some silhouettes in mind and details too but I’m probably going to scrap all that. A few weeks ago, I thought to myself, “What if I wear a bridal suit instead?” Out of curiosity, I started looking at white suits online and oh my gosh, I have converted.

There are several reasons why I changed my mind so let me break it down. First, I thought about the amount of money I would spend on a gown. Now, we each have a set budget in mind. But, whatever the case, do you actually think you’re going to wear that dress again? Probably not. No amount of money is worth spending on something you’re only going to wear once. And don’t give me that excuse of passing it down to your future daughter because, let’s be real, that’s highly unlikely. The thought of wearing the gown for one night and having it collect dust in a box does not sit well with me. But, with a suit, I can totally wear that again—either as a full outfit or mixing and matching the pieces with other clothes in my closet.

As beautiful as gowns are, I want to be level 100 comfortable on my wedding day. I want to be able to eat everything, kill the dance floor, and pee without having to struggle. When I think about it, a suit ticks all the boxes for me when it comes to what i want in a wedding outfit. No need to ask for help from my bridesmaids when I need to go to the bathroom? Yes, please!

Lastly, a suit just feels more like me. Whether I decide on a two or three piece or if I’m going to wear a two or not, the overall look is going to reflect my personality more than a gown will. I have nothing against those who opt to wear a dress, but if doesn’t reflect you or your style, reconsider your choice. F*ck what society thinks, a suit can be feminine, it’s not just for the groom. Heck, I might even have my bridesmaids wear a trouser and top combo too if they want.

Now that I know what I want to wear to my future wedding, I just have to find a place that does impeccable tailoring for women. Did this inspire you to maybe a wear a suit to your wedding too?
