Are you ready to feel stuff? 17 years after A Walk to Remember made us ugly-cry, Mandy Moore and Shane West are back—not as high school sweethearts, but as dear friends. During the ceremony where Mandy was inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame in Los Angeles, Shane honored his former co-star with a lengthy speech.
“We could [not have] been more opposite when we met,” he said, reflecting on working with Mandy in the hit movie which became an instant classic. “I was busy wearing ill-advised clothes and having dubious hair choices and eyeliner and my garage punk band or whatever that was, and you were killing it on the pop star scene, and you had very long, beautiful blonde hair at the time. I was trying to get you to listen to The Clash and the Ramones, and you weren’t very interested in it, but you were sweet about it.”
But here’s the part where you’ll really gush: Shane added, “Not only was this film a wonderful experience in every way, it gave me the chance to fall for this fantastic woman.” OMG! Though the two never dated, this is enough to make our tween dreams of seeing them together alive again. “Mandy, you are an absolute gem, your smile is absolutely ridiculous—seriously, it’s ridiculous, and it lights up the room when you walk in—your energy is irresistible, and your heart is second to none,” Shane continued. “I couldn’t be more proud of you, I couldn’t be more happy for you. Love ya.”
Mandy made sure she reciprocated the love too. On Instagram, she posted a photo of them then and now. “Stars have always sort of been our thing,” she wrote. Of course, who can forget that scene where Shane’s character named a star after Mandy in it? The actress added, “Thankful to @theshanewest for his kind words on this very special day, one which I will never forget. It was a walk (of fame) to remember.”
We cannot. Clearly, their love for each other is like the wind. We cannot see it, but we can definitely feel it. (Yeah, that line is unforgivably cheesy, but c’mon, we just had to.)
